Fire Resistant Gun Safe

If you live in high-risk fire area and own at least one firearm, it is advisable to install a fire resistant gun safe in your home. Even if you live fairly near to a fire department, the average home fire burns for between 15 – 30 minutes, before coming under control and in that short space of time you could lose any number of highly valuable articles from your home. A bit of forethought can save you thousands of dollars in the long-term and a fire resistant gun safe provides an almost indestructible storage space.
There are several levels of temperature resistance available for a fire resistant gun safe, as well as different burn time periods which usually range from ½ hour – 3 hours. It is best to choose the highest temperature and longest burn time you can afford and then you can safely store almost any type of article. You can research this information quite easily online.
In my opinion, one of the best safes is the Stack On 45 Gun safe. This is a fire resistant gun safe that is able to withstand a temperature of up to 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit, for 30 minutes. This is long enough to protect the contents from most fires and only the most severe blaze would be able to damage items stored in this safe. This fire resistant gun safe is also able to protect its contents from water damage or theft. It costs between 1,650 – 2,100 dollars and although there are cheaper fire resistant gun safe models, they cannot match the Stack On 45 for fire resistance ability.
Another fire resistant gun safe to consider is the Remington Sportsman Twenty Fire Proof Gun Safe, which also has good fire resistance ability. This model can deal with temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 30 minutes and although this is a slightly lower temperature level, it will provide ample protection from an average house fire. However, the Remington fire resistant gun safe gains points for its sheer size which can contain up to 22 guns. This safe costs approximately 1,200 dollars and would provide secure storage for a gun collection and keep the firearms away from children or any other unauthorized user.
What you have to consider is whether you have enough valuable items and/or guns in your home to warrant the cost of a fire resistant gun safe. Once you have bought a fire resistant gun safe it will last a lifetime and repay your initial investment. In the event of a fire you will be compensated by your house contents insurance policy, but if you have personal belongings that simply cannot be replaced your best recourse is a fire resistant gun safe.
